Photo Assignments

If you are trying to post a link to a set of photographs, the best way to be sure you are on the correct blog entry is to click on “Assignment: Photo” in the Topics section in the right column. The latest Photo post should be at the top.

I think it would be valuable for students to photograph and collect images related to some of our color investigations this semester. The idea is to have each of you use one of the free photo collection sites (flickr, picasa etc.) to make “sets” or “albums” related to a given color, color scheme, or color problem. In this way we can explore digital color along with our studio paint mixtures.
Periodically I will title a blog entry: Spring10 Photo and give you a simple color problem related to our current studio work. After you have shot or collected the images for that color problem and put them in a public album, you should post the web link to the album in the comments section of that blog entry.
How to post a link to your album as a comment:
As an example, our first image collection assignment is to shoot a group of images representing your one favorite color. First, if you do not already have one of the free photo accounts, start one. If you are a gmail user, you already have access to Picasa, if your email is yahoo you have a Flickr account. Either one is great. (I recommend giving the least amount of information.) Upload your photos to the site and put them in an album (Picasa) or set (Flickr). When you have done that, navigate to the main page for your album (the exact page you want us to view) then select and copy the entire web address. Now navigate to the correct blog entry, look for the comment button, and paste your link in the comment like this: (Use only your first name. Your email address will not show up.)
My favorite color is blue:

Then feel free to add any comments about previous albums.

Note: I am aware of everyone’s different technical abilities so whenever one of these assignments is given for a letter grade there will always be an option to turn printed photos in instead. Please be creative. Any camera, including your phone is ok. Closeups are great. Pay attention to composition.
