Our 5th reading is from Stephen Pentak and Richard Roth’s Color Basics. Chapter 3: color in context. This reading is in preparation for the upcoming Albers exercises – group experiments with color-aid paper investigating the changing nature of color. Comments about the reading are due by 4/13.

Since Nathan Oliveira’s show will be opening here this week, I thought I would post this interview from KQED. He will be speaking Tuesday 4/13, from 5-6pm in room 133. Reception will follow in the Thompson Gallery downstairs. In addition to your reading comments, feel free to comment on the lecture or color in the show. Painting majors should also check out these videos.

Take a series of 12 photographs (must be original photographs) showing contrast of saturation, and post the link in a comment here. Photos should be well composed and show a clear contrast between high and low saturation. Due Tuesday, 4/6.

Our fourth reading is excerpts from Monet’s letters to his wife written while he was working on the Rouen Cathedral series of paintings. The reading is from Vivian Russell’s book, Monet’s Landscapes. Access to the reading is on the syllabus but for anyone wanting to look at the entire book with photos, Here is a link, from google books. Comments are due by 3/23.
